E3 '12 Highlights

Aside from Ninty, Sony & MS didn't unveil their next-generation system although there sure is traces of next-gen games from this year's E3, so let's cut to the chase and present the highlights of E3 '12.

Watch_Dogs

You can witness above the biggest surprise of them all — Watch_Dogs; A new IP (rare stuff that is known to be extinct on E3) from Ubisoft Montreal that shows impressiveness is both visuals (running on NextAnvil engine, same as AC3) and gameplay which, as you can see, is somewhat a cross between GTA and Deus Ex. What fascinates me most is the interaction/manipulation with the environment and the innovative integration of co-op multiplayer in campaign. More after the break!

Star Wars 1313

Another visually stunning game is Lucacarts' Star Wars 1313 — set on Coruscant's underground prison level '1313'. Only chunks of gameplay is seen but it's supposed to play like Uncharted in space. Never thought I would be again interested in a Star Wars game. Hope this won't end up like the Force Unleashed titles.

Agni's Philosophy

Not an actual game but a tech demo to show what Square Enix's new Luminous Engine could do and I say it's strikingly attractive especially Bin Laden's facial hair and how it sways and moves as well as the effects on that dust creature. This is probably what the next-gen Final Fantasy would look like (if next-gen consoles could match today's PC GPUs).

The Last of Us

BEYOND: Two Souls

God of War: Ascension

Another year, another batch of Sony exclusives. Debut gameplay of The Last of Us from Naughty Dog, Unveiling of Quantic Dream's newest title — BEYOND: Two Souls where Heavy Rain meets Ghost Trick and also features Ellen Page (I'm guessing this takes place after The Last of Us where humanity has been reconstructed while Miss Page hasn't recovered yet and still has nightmares about hobos chasing her ), and still brutally slaying Greek creatures with over-the-top gore; It's Kratos in the upcoming prequel God of War: Ascension.

Assassin's Creed 3

The next Assassin's Creed still has that smooth moves even when climbing a tree or steering a ship. Looks like all the elements from the past have been greatly improved with newly added ones that seems fun, like the naval battles.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist

Looks like they've still taken the Conviction route, seems fine for me though I wish it would rather have more substance than flash.

Unreal Engine 4

Not shown on E3. Just a bonus I want to share for everyone to see what the future of games could look like, just like Square-Enix's Luminous Engine. Unreal Engine 4 is shaping up to be as powerful. No wonder a lot of games license UE3 since I heard it's flexible and can produce impressive visuals even on low specs. Though the video is quite boring, preferred Agni's Philosophy more.
